Downtown Boone, home to Appalachian State University, is a twenty-minute drive and boasts local dining, shopping, and breweries. The park features live music on summer weekends. The riverside Valle Crucis Community Park entrance is next to the Mast Store Annex and offers flat walking trails, playgrounds, various ball fields and courts, and access to the river for fishing, wading, and floating. A short ride down the road will bring you to The Original Mast Store and Mast Store Annex, where you can shop for all your outdoor needs and get candy from the candy barrel. Mountain Thyme, located in the Valle Crucis Community above the Watauga River, has excellent access to everything in the High Country.
